Raymond Magnani When I was a kid, we always had a functioning darkroom. My dad would be churning out scores of Christmas card photos and I would be running the chemicals. I’ve never been without a camera. I see the world more clearly when I have the possibility of getting the shot. My photography is all over the map. I have no one style. Sometimes the environment leads me; how can I capture this light, this plant, this feeling I have when I look over this landscape. At other times I plan ahead; what would it look like if I blended multiple exposures of the same object from slightly different viewpoints into one image?
Photography is different than most art forms. The painter starts with the blank canvas, the sculptor with the block of stone. The photographer on the other hand takes pictures of things that are already there. How can this be art? The painter creates something from nothing. The photographer must create some thing of value from everything. Capture the essence by removing the extraneous. Focus the eye of the viewer to look and look again at something they may have seen a thousand times, but never in that way.
